We Love: Bristol Cinemas

Whether you love the Pearl and Dean music and the sense of occasion or simply loathe the outrageously priced popcorn and bemoan those people who talk through the film… there is no better way to see a film than as it was intended – on the big screen.

So which cinema should get your hard earned cash?

Here are our 4 favourite cinemas in Bristol:

  1. The Orpheus
Wouldn’t it be great if every neighbourhood had a cinema like The Orpheus?  It is a true local cinema.  The prices are very good value, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, they serve camomile tea in china mugs and the it’s above a Waitrose.  What’s not to like, oh and it’s called The Orpheus, which is such a cool name for a cinema and it’s not a multiplex which brings me onto…

  2. The Directors Hall, Showcase Cinema de Lux
If you are looking for a special trip to the cinema, then The Directors Hall is the place. The seats are wide and comfy, there is a dedicated lounge, you can get waitress service, and it really is a cut above other cinemas.  It is not cheap, but the ticket includes popcorn and a drink and you do get a real sense of occasion. Just don’t expect any films other than the latest blockbuster!

  3. Watershed
A near perfect cinema in our opinion. It shows interesting films be they from Hollywood or indie. There are mother and baby sessions, kid sessions, late night cult classic screenings, and to top it off, it boasts a really good café/bar. Top venue, top cinema.

  4. Cineworld Hengrove
A few years ago this was the worst cinema in Bristol.  Now it is one of the best.  Where once the staff were rude and surly they are now friendly and helpful, the place is clean and most importantly it has a sensible attitude to online booking.  If you join ‘My Cineworld’ not only are there no booking fees you get a 10% discount for booking online!

Well, that's my humble opinion, but I'm sure you've got your own thoughts, so why not tell us about your favourite cinema in Bristol and why it deserves to be added to our list.
